Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak held, today, Tuesday, in the capital, Aden, a meeting with the head of the European Union mission, Gabriel Vinales, and the ambassadors of a number of European Union countries accredited to Yemen, devoted to discussing the latest developments in the situation on the national scene, and the government’s efforts in the path of reforms. And addressing economic and humanitarian challenges, including maintaining the national currency exchange rates.
The meeting, with the participation of the ambassadors of France, Germany, the Netherlands, Romania, and Greece, reviewed the European and international support required to support government efforts to strengthen the position of the national currency, and contain the repercussions of the cessation of oil exports and the rise in sea freight prices on living conditions as a result of the Houthi terrorist attacks on Merchant ships and international navigation.
He also touched on the regional and international situation, the importance of stopping the Israeli aggression against Gaza and Lebanon, and containing the repercussions of the conflict for the sake of stability in the region and the world, in addition to peace developments in Yemen, and the ongoing military escalation by the Houthi militia.
The Prime Minister briefed the European ambassadors fully on the problems facing the government and its vision for dealing with them, including the Houthi economic war, and the government’s continuation of its steps to implement reforms, fight corruption, enhance transparency and accountability, and rationalize expenditures. He said that the economic situation now is the primary concern. For citizens, in light of the decline in the price of the national currency and the weak purchasing power of citizens, and in addition to the measures of the government and the Presidential Leadership Council, there must be a regional and international path to support the government to achieve economic stability.”
Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak stressed the need for urgent and rapid intervention to support the government in this vital file, because delay will make the solutions more expensive, expressing the pride of the Yemeni leadership, government and people in the historical relations and strategic partnership with the European Union countries.
The Prime Minister pointed out the continued escalation of the terrorist Houthi militia at various levels, exacerbating the worst humanitarian crisis in the world, its crimes against civilians, its violations of human rights, and the kidnapping of UN and international employees and workers in the relief and humanitarian field, stressing that international tolerance with the Houthi militia is no longer of any benefit. Unless there are clear positions and messages, to meet the objective conditions for peace.
In turn, the head of the Union mission and the European ambassadors affirmed their full support for the government and its efforts to implement reforms and work to stabilize economic and service conditions, expressing their appreciation for the keenness shown by the government to establish peace and reach a political solution.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr. Waed Badib, and the Prime Minister’s Advisor, Ambassador Mujib Othman.
