The great southern politician, Haider Abu Bakr Al-Attas, returned to Yemen today, after an absence of 34 years. He was accompanied by the head of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, and a number of officials. This is Al-Attas’s first visit to Yemen since the 1994 summer war.
Engineer Haider Abu Bakr Al-Attas is considered the last president of the People’s Democratic Republic of Yemen, as he held this position before unification in 1990. He was also the first prime minister of the unified state, and head of the disengagement government in May 1994.
Al-Attas returned to Mukalla, accompanied by Al-Alimi, who is an advisor to the Chairman of the Leadership Council.
