At the conclusion of its fifty-seventh session, the Human Rights Council adopted by consensus a resolution submitted by the UAE on behalf of the Arab Group on “Providing technical assistance and capacity building to Yemen in the field of human rights.”
The resolution was presented by Emirati Ambassador Jamal Al Musharreh, Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, stressing that the resolution on Yemen is considered an embodiment of one of the most important goals for which the Human Rights Council was established, which is to work with the country concerned and enable its national institutions to In order to promote and protect human rights, through dialogue and constructive cooperation, and through providing technical assistance and capacity building in the field of human rights.
The resolution addressed to the Office of the High Commissioner requests that the necessary support be provided to the Yemeni government to implement its obligations in the field of human rights and to meet the needs of the Yemeni people in the development and humanitarian fields. The resolution adopted by the Human Rights Council also seeks to strengthen the capabilities of the Independent National Commission to investigate allegations of violations of human rights and international humanitarian law to continue its activities in order to ensure accountability, achieve justice, and repair damage.
The resolution also renews its strong support for international efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive ceasefire, ending the conflict in Yemen, and seeking meaningful political dialogue for peace. It calls for removing obstacles that prevent the arrival of relief and humanitarian aid.
The resolution also called on all bodies of the United Nations system, including the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, and all countries to support the transitional process in Yemen with the necessary resources in order to address the consequences of violence and the economic and social challenges facing Yemen, in coordination with international donors and in accordance with what It is determined by the Yemeni authorities as a priority.
In this regard, Al-Musharrekh stressed that the UAE supports all regional and international efforts made to find a political solution in Yemen in a way that achieves the aspirations of its brotherly people for security, development and stability.
He also reaffirmed that the UAE stands by the Yemeni people and supports their legitimate ambitions for development and prosperity within the framework of its policy of supporting everything that serves the interests of the peoples of the region.
