The United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen, David Gresley, said. He was extremely horrified to learn of the death of a Save the Children employee while in the custody of the Sanaa authorities.
In a statement, Gresley said that the United Nations and its partners are deeply concerned about the limited information available regarding Al-Hakimi’s death, and called on the Sana’a authorities to provide complete and timely information regarding the circumstances that led to his death.
According to the UN official, three UN employees are still detained - two since November 2021 and one since August 2023. The United Nations and their families have not been able to visit, and I call on the Sanaa authorities to provide full information about their conditions as well as the possibility of visiting.
Al-Hakimi died two months after being detained by the Houthis, while sources said that he died as a result of torture in the group’s prisons.
