Today, Tuesday, Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak chaired a meeting of the Supreme Committee to Combat Smuggling in the capital, Aden. During the meeting, efforts made to combat smuggling in all its forms were followed up and evaluated, including tracking currency smugglers and criminal networks that threaten the national economy.
The meeting discussed the integration of efforts at the military, security and judicial levels, to implement Cabinet decisions aimed at protecting sea and land ports. The procedures related to the decision to combat the smuggling of currencies and precious metals were also evaluated, stressing the need for the concerned authorities to assume their responsibilities in strict implementation.
The head of the Customs Authority, Dr. Abdel-Hakim Al-Qubati, presented a report on the authority’s efforts to combat smuggling, noting that 124 customs seizures had been seized, including 69 kilos of gold. The committee appreciated the role of the military and security forces in reducing smuggling operations, especially the smuggling of Iranian weapons and drugs.
The Prime Minister directed that decisions be transformed into executive work matrices to ensure follow-up of achievements and holding negligent parties accountable, stressing the importance of the role of local authorities, the media and civil society in supporting efforts to combat smuggling.
