Dr. Rashad Mohamed Al-Elimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, arrived today, Sunday, in the Arab Republic of Egypt, at the invitation of his brother, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, to participate in the opening of the twelfth edition of the World Urban Forum, which begins its work in Cairo tomorrow, Monday, under the auspices of the United Nations.
The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council and his accompanying delegation were received at Cairo Airport by the Egyptian Minister of Labor, Mohamed Gibran, the Ambassador of the Republic of Yemen to the Arab Republic of Egypt, Khaled Mahfouz Bahah, the Acting Permanent Representative of Yemen to the Arab League, Dr. Ali Musa, and a number of members of the embassy. The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council is scheduled to deliver a speech to the forum in which he will review local development efforts, and the structural and financial pressures and challenges imposed by the terrorist Houthi militia war on the Yemeni people, and the massive destruction it has caused to infrastructure and basic services, forcing millions of Yemenis to Displacement away from their homes.
It will also address the effects of climate change and its catastrophic repercussions, the role relied on by regional allies and international partners in supporting reconstruction efforts, and the government’s plans in the housing and service aspects and responding to the needs required to mitigate the effects of climate change and keep pace with global efforts aimed at achieving sustainable development goals.
The Yemeni delegation participating in the forum includes the Director of the Office of the Presidency of the Republic, Dr. Yahya Al-Shuaibi, the Advisor to the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Nasr Taha Mustafa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs, Dr. Shaye’ Al-Zindani, and the Minister of Public Works and Roads, Engineer Salem Al-Huraizi.
The forum, in which about thirty thousand participants registered this year, is held under the slogan: “It all starts locally - let’s work together for sustainable cities and communities,” with the aim of promoting dialogue on how to make cities more inclusive, resilient and sustainable, through sharing experiences and ideas.
