Under the title “Why does Cairo turn a blind eye to the Houthi operations in the Red Sea?” Former Israeli intelligence officer and specialist in Egyptian affairs Eli Dekel attacked Egypt because of its position on this issue.
The former intelligence officer said in an analytical article in Maariv newspaper about the map of regional interests: “The Egyptians lost about two billion dollars due to the damage to maritime traffic in the Suez Canal, and yet they did not move against the Houthis.”
Lieutenant Colonel Elie Dekal, a former intelligence officer who specializes in studying Egypt, spoke to Maariv about the Houthi threat to the Red Sea region.
According to him, “Every missile that passes from Yemen has an impact on the Gulf of Suez and flies within a thousand kilometers of Egyptian territory, and within the limits of these thousands of kilometers, which is their territory, they can discover this and provide us with information via radars or interception if they want to.”
He adds: “The Houthis are harming Egypt a lot, by damaging ships roaming in the Red Sea, and this is harming the Egyptians’ income in the Suez Canal. According to the latest reports, they are losing about two billion dollars so far. An unknown plane is flying in our direction. This could give us A strategic warning, and I am not familiar with the relations, but I do not know that Egypt might do this.”
Last month, Dekel referred to Egyptian intervention, allegedly in the Gaza Strip, where he claimed: “I tend to believe that the Egyptians are deeply involved in the Gaza Strip. They helped a lot in regaining Gaza after the last war. They removed all the rubble that We bombed it, and they also built many projects, and then the Egyptian president came out with a statement saying that he would donate half a billion dollars for the reconstruction of Gaza.”
He added: “Egypt transferred a full half a billion dollars to the benefit of the residents of Gaza, but there is no doubt that it helped a lot in restoring Gaza after the war.”
Eli Dekel suggested in a recorded lecture that the Israeli government should study Egypt’s role in anesthetizing the State of Israel, and that it promoted that Hamas was weak until we fell into the trap. The question is, were all the communications that we had with Egyptian intelligence were deliberate anesthesia injections, as you said?
