The United States of America confirmed that the humanitarian funding it has provided to Yemen so far amounts to more than $733 million, to meet the growing humanitarian needs and continue providing life-saving assistance to millions of people affected by the conflict and multiple crises in the country.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) said in its latest report on the humanitarian situation and the complex emergency in Yemen, that the total humanitarian funding from the United States government had reached more than $733.5 million by last September 30, to respond to the humanitarian crisis in Yemen. The country during the fiscal year 2024.
The report added that most of the funding, amounting to about $691.2 million, was provided by the agency’s Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance (BHA), while the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration of the US Department of State (State/PRM) provided funding of $42.3 million to meet the needs. Basic necessities for millions of vulnerable people in the country during the current year.
The agency indicated that the funding provided by the Humanitarian Aid Office will be distributed to a number of UN agencies and partner organizations operating in Yemen, most notably the World Food Program (WFP), which will receive $407.362 million, and will be allocated to finance food aid, cash transfers, and therapeutic nutrition. Which the program provides to alleviate the worsening food insecurity crisis in the country.
About $69.108 million will also be allocated to UNICEF, $2.1 million to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), in addition to $1.392 million to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Population Fund (29.789 million). The International Organization for Migration (32.074 million), and the World Health Organization (8.050 million).
The agency explained that an estimated $140.835 million will be allocated to food aid, cash transfers, nutrition, health, protection, water, sanitation and hygiene in 13 governorates, through implementing partners from non-governmental organizations working in the field of relief in Yemen.
The report stated that the funding provided by the Office of Refugees and Migration at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be allocated to the Organization for Migration ($3 million), the UNHCR ($14.825 million), and humanitarian partners working in Yemen ($24.5 million) to provide protection and health care services. And shelter for displaced people, migrants and host communities in the country.
In early May, the agency announced the provision of funding amounting to approximately $219.739 million to respond to the humanitarian crisis in Yemen during the year 2024, and in its latest report it rose to more than $733.5 million.
