The US State Department discussed with the Sultanate of Oman the issue of its embassy employees in Sanaa who are detained in Houthi prisons, in addition to dozens of employees of UN and international organizations.
According to a statement by the US State Department, Secretary Anthony Blinken discussed, in a telephone call with his Omani counterpart, Badr al-Busaidi, on Friday, the issue of employees of humanitarian agencies and diplomatic missions detained by the pro-Iranian group in Yemen, and the urgent need for their release.
She added that the two ministers discussed "the urgent need to ensure the release of Yemeni employees of the US Embassy in Sanaa and international and non-governmental organizations who were illegally detained by the Houthis."
Blinken expressed his grave concern about the treatment of detainees and the conditions of their detention.
In early June, a militia launched a massive kidnapping campaign that targeted about 70 employees of relief agencies and non-governmental organizations, including a number of United Nations employees, while a number of US embassy employees continued to be detained for more than three years.
