The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs, Dr. Shaye’a Al-Zindani, participated in a session related to the security of the Red Sea and securing strategic checkpoints, within the activities of the tenth session of the Rome Mediterranean Dialogues Forum, which was held in the Italian capital, Rome, during the period from 25 to 27 November 2024.
In his speech, the Minister stressed the importance of strengthening regional and international cooperation and supporting the government to ensure navigation in the Red Sea and the necessity of taking collective action and measures to confront the Houthi threat, including preventing weapons smuggling and activating the inspection mechanism established by the Security Council.
The Foreign Minister stressed that the Houthi militias, with the support of Iran, no longer only represent a threat to Yemen and its stability, but also represent a threat to international peace and security, freedom of maritime navigation and international trade.
Minister Al-Zindani called on the international community to support the Yemeni government economically and developmentally, as well as its security capabilities in the field of the Coast Guard, so that it can play its role in securing freedom of maritime navigation.
At the conclusion of his speech, Minister Al-Zindani stressed that securing the Red Sea and protecting its shipping lanes is a shared responsibility, and that supporting Yemen in facing security and development challenges is in everyone’s interest, noting that supporting Yemeni legitimacy today represents an investment in the stability of the region and the world.
