Intensive diplomatic efforts are being made by the Yemeni government to discuss the Houthi threats to international shipping.
Yemeni Foreign Minister Sha'i al-Zindani with Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Taiani, developments in the situation in Yemen and efforts to bring peace in light of the Houthi threats to the international shipping corridor.
Minister Al-Zindani met in the Italian capital, Rome, today, Wednesday, with the Italian minister, where the meeting discussed the threats of military escalation by the Houthi militias, in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab, and the Gulf of Aden, and its impact on the local conditions and the international economy.
Al-Zindani said during the meeting that the Houthi maritime attacks represent “a threat to security, peace, freedom of maritime navigation and international trade.”
Al-Zindani stressed the importance of strengthening regional and international cooperation, supporting the Yemeni government to ensure navigation in the Red Sea, and the necessity of taking collective measures and measures and a comprehensive approach to confront these attacks and their dangerous and multiple repercussions, including preventing weapons smuggling, and activating the inspection mechanism established by the Security Council.< /p>
The Yemeni Foreign Minister appreciated the Italian government's support for the Presidential Command Council and the Yemeni government, in its quest to bring peace, restore state institutions, end the coup of the Houthi militias supported by the Iranian regime, and address the humanitarian situation in the country.
The Yemeni minister stressed, “The importance of expanding cooperation in the field of protecting antiquities and cultural heritage, as Italy is one of the leading countries in this.”
In the same context, the Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister affirmed, "his country's continued support for the Presidential Command Council, the legitimate government, and the unity, security and stability of Yemen."
Antonio reiterated Italy's continued commitment "to support the humanitarian relief efforts of United Nations organizations and agencies in Yemen to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people, and to support the efforts of the UN envoy to find a political settlement to end the conflict and establish lasting peace and security."
Recently, the Houthi terrorist militia has escalated its naval operations in attacking commercial and oil ships in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab, and the Arabian Sea.
The Houthi militias have claimed responsibility for targeting more than 200 ships since the start of their naval attacks, and with the escalation in the pace of their recent attacks, the number of commercial ships targeted has increased, which indicates the militias’ continued threat to global shipping lanes.
