The International Organization for Migration announced that more than 20,000 people have been internally displaced in Yemen since the beginning of the current year 2024.
The organization said, in a report on Monday, that it monitored 3,411 families, consisting of 20,466 people, who were displaced at least once during the period between January 1 and November 30, 2024.
The report added that most of the displaced families since the beginning of the year were registered in Ma’rib Governorate, amounting to 1,506 families, including 9,036 people, followed by Al-Hudaydah with 799 families (4,794 people), then Taiz, which witnessed the displacement of 762 families (4,572 people). Lahj with 281 families (1,686 people), and Al Dhalea with 50 families (300 people), in addition to 8 families (48 people) in Shabwa and 5 families (30 people) in Hadhramaut.
According to the report, the displacement cases recorded last week represented a 30 percent decrease compared to the previous week.
The International Organization for Migration indicated that economic factors related to the conflict were the main reason behind 55 percent of displaced families leaving their areas of origin out of the total displacement cases recorded during the past week, while security fears and threats prompted 45 percent of displaced families to leave their places of residence.
