US Central Command announced that its forces repelled Houthi militia attacks on two US Navy destroyers and ships carrying the US flag as they were crossing the Gulf of Aden.
The command said, in a statement, on Monday, that “the two US Navy destroyers (USS Stockdale) and (USS Oaken) successfully repelled the Houthi attack, while they were crossing the Gulf of Aden in the period from November 30 to 1 December.
Central Command added, "The two destroyers were escorting 3 commercial ships owned and operated by the United States and flying the American flag."
It explained in the statement that “the attacks included the use of 3 ballistic missiles, an anti-ship cruise missile, and 3 suicide drones.”
The US Central Bank indicated that “these attacks did not result in any casualties or damage to civilian ships or the US Navy.”
On Sunday evening, the Houthi militia announced the launch of a military operation against an American destroyer and ships in the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Aden with 16 ballistic missiles and a drone.
In a statement by its military wing spokesman, Yahya Saree, the militias said that they carried out a military and joint operation, in the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Aden, targeting an American destroyer and 3 supply ships belonging to the American army.
The militias added, “The operation was carried out with 16 ballistic and winged missiles and a drone in the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Aden, and the casualties were accurate and direct.”
The British Maritime Trade Operations Authority also announced, on Sunday, December 1, that a commercial ship had been attacked off the coast of the Yemeni city of Aden.
Last Thursday, American and British warplanes launched air strikes on militia military sites in Hodeidah Governorate, western Yemen.
Since last January, American and British forces have been launching strikes as part of a military coalition aimed at curbing the capabilities of the Houthis and limiting their attacks against international shipping lines passing through the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
Since November of last year, the Houthis have launched missile and drone attacks on the movement of ships in the Red Sea region, affecting about 12% of global trade, under the pretext of supporting Gaza and stopping the Israeli war in the Strip.
