Next Wednesday, the UN Security Council will hold its monthly session on the situation in Yemen, which has been witnessing a war for nine years.
The Council is expected to discuss during the session, which will be held at the United Nations headquarters in New York, the renewal of the financial sanctions and travel ban measures on Yemen, which expire on November 15, and the mandate of the Yemeni Group of Experts, which expires on December 15. .
The Council will also discuss briefings from UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg, the representative of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Ambassador Farid Khoja, and the head of the United Nations Mission to Support the Hodeidah Agreement (UNMHA), Major General Michael Perry.
The Security Council meeting coincides with the Houthis' military escalation and their adoption of attacks against Israel. On October 19, the United States announced that a US Navy warship in the northern Red Sea intercepted three missiles and several drones launched from Yemen.
Other reports stated that the United States intercepted four cruise missiles and 15 drones. According to the United States, the missiles and drones were heading north along the Red Sea, possibly toward targets in Israel.
