The Kuwaiti government has provided a new grant aimed at addressing health challenges in Yemen, which has been suffering from the repercussions of the war that has been going on for ten years.
The Kuwait Fund for Development explained in a press statement that it signed a grant agreement yesterday with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), under which it will donate $1.5 million to support the primary health care services project in Yemen.
This project aims to provide operational support to primary health care centers, including maintenance and administrative expenses, in addition to providing medical equipment, medicines, and vaccines. It also focuses on ensuring the availability of the minimum human resources required to operate these centers.
The statement indicated that the funding will contribute to providing 290 health centers with medicines, vaccines, and basic care in the areas of maternal and child health, nutrition, non-communicable diseases, mental health, and disease prevention, in addition to managing medical waste and promoting social and behavioral change.
The statement added that this project comes within the framework of the memorandum of understanding that was signed last September between the Kuwait Fund and the British Foreign Office, to provide emergency humanitarian aid to those affected by the conflict in Yemen. A joint humanitarian grant worth 3 million US dollars will be provided, with 1.5 million dollars each from Kuwait and Britain, with the aim of financing the project, which is expected to directly benefit about 1.45 million people.
