The University of Aden Council organizes a protest on the campus grounds in Al-Shaab City

The University of Aden Council appealed to the political leadership, represented by the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Muhammad Al-Alimi, and the members of the Council, each by name and capacity, and all concerned parties in the judicial and executive authorities, to stand firmly against the violations that the campus land in Al-Shaab City is being subjected to. Repetitive and random spread on the chart that was permissible from influential sides.
The Council confirmed, in its extraordinary meeting held today, Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at the College of Engineering in Al-Shaab City, that the university has been subjected to injustice and prejudice and has reached a dead end with regard to the right to seize control of its lands and dispose of them, calling on the concerned authorities to return the right to its owners and develop solutions. Permanent to protect its lands from repeated attacks and distortion of the urban plan of the university campus in Al-Shaab City, and to take the necessary measures to prevent encroachments that may harm the lands of this ancient academic institution. And its future projects.
The Council of the University of Aden held the relevant authorities fully responsible for taking what is necessary to protect and preserve the campus land, and that its position is the same with the state of institutions and its goal is to protect its lands for the future of generations through legal means. The Council stated that random expansion of the campus site portends danger to the university’s strategic projects. The most important of which is the university teaching hospital to be built at a financial cost of (100) million dollars, with a capacity of (500) beds, with funding from the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, the College of Medicine project, and other projects. After the university prepared the infrastructure for many sites in terms of fences, paving roads, and services.
The Council, on behalf of all members of the University of Aden, expressed its great thanks and appreciation to the Director of the Buraiqa District, Dr. Salah Yahya Al-Shoubji, for his sense of responsibility towards this edifice, and to everyone who stood by the university in preserving its right to the campus lands in Al-Shaab City.
In a statement to them, the Chairman of the Committee for Follow-up of the Competent Authorities Regarding Assault and Ruling on Campus Lands, Dr. Muhammad Saleh Mohsen, Dean of the College of Law, and the Committee Member, Dr. Saleh Basarda, Director General of the General Administration of Legal Affairs at the University, reviewed the committee’s conclusions regarding follow-ups with the authorities.
After that, members of the University of Aden Council held a protest on the violated land on the university campus, to deliver a message to the concerned authorities, public opinion, civil society organizations, various media outlets, and community committees, about the importance of standing by the university as it confronts powerful forces that violated the campus land and distorted its features. During which they raised banners calling on the political leadership and concerned parties to preserve the campus land, which is the future of the university’s colleges, and that preserving the university’s lands is to preserve the future of the nation and the generations, calling for putting The future of science is above all else.
It is noteworthy that these lands belong to the state and were allocated to the University of Aden in 1997 AD under a ownership contract for Jewar Unit No. (575) with ownership of an area estimated at 400 square hectares from the state’s interest and real estate, which was confirmed by the Land Ownership Treatment Committee in its decision issued in 2009 AD and considered this land State land.
