Head of the Prison Service: 5,600 prisoners are in urgent need of improving living conditions

The head of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Mohsen Yahya Talib, met today, in his office in the capital, Aden, with Major General Saleh Abdul Habib, head of the Republic’s Prison Service, to discuss prison conditions in light of the delay in disbursing the operational budget to feed prisoners and the lack of resources allocated to it.
During the meeting, which was attended by Judge Dr. Ali Atboush Awad, Secretary-General of the Judicial Council, and Dr. Nasser Al-Subaihi, Head of the Prisons Division in the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the head of the department explained the situation that the central prisons in the liberated governorates are going through as a result of the increase in the number, which has reached 5,600 prisoners, and what This is offset by scarcity in the operating budget, the disbursement of which is delayed every month.
Judge Mohsen Taleb expressed his readiness to communicate with the Presidential Leadership Council and the Ministry of Finance to follow up on disbursing the necessary allocations to improve prison conditions and provide basic needs.
He also urged the presidency of the department to coordinate with philanthropists and humanitarian organizations to contribute to alleviating the suffering of prisoners, especially in light of the economic challenges that the country is going through.
The meeting touched on discussing the status of the committee formed by the Presidential Leadership Council last Ramadan, headed by MP Abdul Rahman Al-Muharami, to care for prisoners and help the indigent, and follow up on its findings in this regard.
The meeting was attended by Major Anas Al-Subaihi, Director General of the Office of the Head of the Prisons Service.
