In a new escalatory step, the Houthi militia sent huge reinforcements to the border areas of Al-Bayda Governorate, adjacent to the Yafa’ districts in Lahj Governorate, southern Yemen. These movements come amid indications that the group is concerned about the movements of government forces.
Local sources said that during the past days, the Houthi group sent dozens of military crews and armored vehicles to the districts of Dhi Na'im and Al-Zahir Al-Hamiqan on the border with Lahj, accompanied by hundreds of fighters. The sources added that the group is developing new roads and digging trenches in the border mountains between Al-Bayda and Lahj governorates, with the aim of fortifying its positions and enhancing its defensive capacity in the region.
The same sources confirmed that last night witnessed the arrival of buses loaded with new fighters via the Dhamar-Radaa line towards the border areas in the districts of Dhi Na’im and Al-Zahir, which indicates the continued flow of reinforcements towards those locations.
These intensive movements come within the framework of the Houthis' growing fears of any anticipated military attack by government forces towards Al-Bayda Governorate. These fears are related to the developments of recent events in Syria, where the Assad regime, a strategic ally of Iran, suffered accelerating military defeats that led to its complete fall and the opposition taking control of the country, which may push the Houthis to strengthen their positions on the ground for fear of being exposed to similar attacks.
These developments indicate a possible escalation in the border areas between Al-Bayda and Lahj, which opens the door to military confrontations that may lead to changing the balance of power in those areas.
