Sanaa International Airport announced that it was subjected to an Israeli air strike as part of a series of raids targeting sites in Sanaa and Hodeidah, which led to the partial destruction of the control tower and the airport hall.
The airport confirmed in an official statement published on its Facebook page that the attack constitutes a flagrant violation of international laws, especially international humanitarian law and civil aviation agreements.
The airport indicated in its statement that targeting civilian airports and aircraft is a clear violation of international agreements prohibiting any hostile action against civilian installations. The airport also mentioned the text of Article 1 bis of the 1988 Montreal Protocol amending the 1977 Montreal Convention, which stipulates that “any person “Whoever commits acts that involve destroying or seriously damaging equipment at an airport serving international civil aviation or a non-operational aircraft located at the airport, or obstructing airport service, is considered to have committed the offence.”
At the conclusion of the statement, Sanaa International Airport renewed its call to adhere to international laws prohibiting the targeting of civilian facilities, stressing that this attack represents a dangerous escalation in military tensions in the region.
