The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said on Wednesday that he has been suffering from tinnitus since he and his team were trapped in the middle of an Israeli air strike in Yemen.
Tedros (59 years old) wrote on the social networking site (X), after his return to Geneva: “I am fine, but I had ringing in the ears, due to the strong explosion. I hope it is temporary.”
The Israeli Air Force bombed the airport in the Yemeni capital, Sana'a, last Thursday, while the team of the organization's Director-General was about to board its plane.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus visited Yemen in an attempt to release 16 United Nations staff, employees of diplomatic missions and workers in non-governmental organizations held by the Houthi group.
Tedros said that one crew member was injured, and the control tower, departure lounge and runway were damaged.
