Mines and remnants of war cause 28 casualties during December

A center specialized in documenting mine victims confirmed the killing and injury of 28 civilians in five Yemeni governorates during the month of December of last year 2024.
The Yemeni Mine Observatory said, in tweets on the “X” platform, that its field teams were able during the month of December of last year to record and document the deaths of 11 civilians, including two children, and the injury of 17 others, including 6 children, as a result of incidents of Houthi mine explosions and explosive devices. And military objects.
He explained that the incidents occurred in several areas contaminated with mines in the coastal governorates of Hodeidah, Taiz, Al-Bayda, Al-Jawf, and Hajjah, pointing out that mine explosion incidents caused the destruction and damage of 7 civilian vehicles.
He said that hundreds of Yemenis who were injured by mines and booby traps during the past year “welcomed the new year with open wounds, with many of them unable to receive or continue treatment.”
The Observatory expressed its hope that, on the occasion of the new year, the Houthis would stop planting more mines and that an agreement would be reached to hand over mine maps and support engineering teams working in the field of clearance and removal.
