Al-Yafei: Solving corruption in Yemen requires getting rid of the current system completely

Dr. Yasser Al-Yafei said, in a post on his Facebook page, that the fight against corruption in Yemen will not be achieved under the current system, which he described as “full of corrupt people,” indicating that attempts to hold the corrupt accountable by the legitimacy are nothing more than “Settlement of accounts between corrupt parties.”
Al-Yafei stressed that “whoever believes that this legitimacy with all its components will hold the corrupt accountable is living in an illusion,” noting that corruption has systematically penetrated all state institutions, making it difficult to achieve any serious steps to hold the corrupt accountable.
He added: “A corrupt person cannot hold a corrupt person accountable, especially when the entire system is based on corruption, and therefore truly fighting corruption requires uprooting this entire system.”
Al-Yafei called for the formation of an independent national anti-corruption body that would be completely separate from the rest of the institutions, and would enjoy sovereign powers, even above the authority of the president himself, while ensuring full support from the military and security institutions, and providing comprehensive protection for the members of the body.
He pointed out that any attempt to combat corruption without implementing these steps will be merely “empty slogans” that are useless, stressing that “the corrupt have plundered what they could, and the citizen is the one who pays the price day after day because of this corruption.”
He explained at the conclusion of his post: “The solution lies in forming an independent national body capable of fighting corruption seriously and effectively, and this is the only way to save the country from the collapse resulting from rampant corruption.”
