The Yemeni Minister of Public Works and Roads, Dr. Nabil Al-Wazir, dismissed the Director of the Road and Bridge Maintenance Fund, Moein Al-Mas, due to disagreements between the minister and Al-Mas over the management of axle scales for weighing trucks.
According to informed sources, the Minister considers that the axial squares are within the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Works, and not the Road and Bridge Maintenance Fund.
Minister Al-Mas rejected these accusations, stressing that the axial bridges are within the Fund’s jurisdiction, and that they contribute to improving the efficiency of roads and bridges.
Almas' dismissal sparked angry reactions from activists and human rights organizations, who considered it an attempt by the Minister of Works to settle his scores with Almas, who enjoys great popularity in Yemeni circles.
This dispute comes in light of a major corruption crisis taking place in Yemeni government institutions, as the country suffers from a lack of basic services, such as electricity, water, health, and education.
