The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs, Dr. Shaye’ Al-Zindani, met today with the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, to discuss developments in the situation in Yemen and the efforts made to achieve peace.
During the meeting, developments in the UN envoy’s movements aimed at advancing peace in Yemen were reviewed, with a focus on the importance of pressuring the Houthi militias to deal seriously with peace efforts and end the suffering of the Yemeni people, in addition to releasing detainees who belong to international and local organizations and missions. Diplomacy.
Minister Al-Zindani also discussed the repercussions of the terrorist attack carried out by the Houthi militias in the village of Al-Hanaka in Al-Bayda Governorate, which resulted in the death and injury of a number of civilians, stressing his condemnation of these criminal acts that target innocent people and civilian property. He stressed the need to stop the military escalation and impose sanctions on the militias to prevent the recurrence of such crimes.
Minister Al-Zindani expressed the Yemeni political leadership’s emphasis on full cooperation with international and regional efforts to reach a comprehensive political settlement that achieves stability and restores state institutions, based on the three agreed upon terms of reference and Security Council resolutions, especially Resolution 2216.
For his part, UN envoy Hans Grundberg affirmed the continuation of his efforts to reduce the escalation and end the war, and work on a comprehensive political process under the auspices of the United Nations to achieve lasting peace in Yemen.
The meeting comes after the return of the UN envoy from Iran, which also came after discussions conducted by Grundberg with Houthi leaders in Muscat and Sanaa.
