Yemeni Prime Minister, Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, received today, Tuesday, the United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
The two parties discussed the results of the recent regional and international visits of the UN envoy, and efforts to revive the political process in Yemen.
Grundberg briefed the Prime Minister on the options offered to push the Houthi group to deal seriously with peace initiatives, stop its escalating violations against civilians, including the recent crimes in the village of Hanakat al-Masoud in Al-Bayda Governorate, and release the kidnapped UN and international employees.
The meeting also touched on the regional and international support required to support the Yemeni government in facing the economic and living challenges, which have been exacerbated by the systematic economic war waged by the Houthi group, and its targeting of oil export ports, in addition to its continued attacks on commercial ships and international navigation.
The Prime Minister affirmed the government's adherence to the path of comprehensive and just peace in accordance with the three approved terms of reference, noting that the Houthi escalation aims to destabilize regional and international security and undermine efforts to calm the situation.
For his part, the UN envoy expressed his appreciation for the positive cooperation by the Yemeni government, stressing the United Nations’ keenness to redouble efforts to launch a comprehensive political process and end the war in Yemen.
