Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, received today, Thursday, the British Ambassador to Yemen, Abdo Sharif.
In the meeting, the British Ambassador, Al-Alimi, was briefed on the arrangements led by the United Kingdom to hold the international donors’ meeting for Yemen in New York on the 20th of this month with the aim of mobilizing political and economic support for the Yemeni government, and strengthening its capabilities to contribute to protecting international peace and security.
The meeting touched on bilateral relations, developments in the national and regional situation, and ways of coordination between the two friendly countries regarding various issues of common interest.
The meeting also touched on the path of political, economic, and structural reforms, the priorities of the transitional phase, and the international support required to improve living and humanitarian conditions, which were exacerbated by the Houthi terrorist attacks on oil installations and shipping ships.
The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council praised the distinguished bilateral relations with the United Kingdom and its humanitarian and development interventions in various fields, noting the British initiative to organize an international meeting on Yemen, and his aspiration that this would represent an important step in identifying the urgent needs of the Yemeni people, including Supporting his legitimate government to impose full control over its national territory.
The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council reiterated the Council and the government’s adherence to a comprehensive and just peace approach in accordance with the terms of reference agreed upon nationally, regionally and internationally, especially Resolution 2216, and openness to all initiatives that would alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people and achieve their aspirations for security, stability, peace and development.
He also affirmed Yemen's firm positions regarding developments in the region, foremost among which is the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent, fully sovereign state, welcoming in this context the announcement of reaching a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip through the mediation of brothers and friends in the State of Qatar and the Arab Republic of Egypt, and The United States of America, hoping that this will lead to an end to all sources of tension and destabilize the security and stability of the region.
The meeting was attended by the Advisor to the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council for Local Administration Affairs, Engineer Badr Basalama, and the Director of the Office of the Chairman of the Leadership Council, Major General Saleh Al-Maqaleh.
