The National Committee to Investigate Allegations of Human Rights Violations met today, Sunday, with the commander of the Tur al-Baha military axis, Major General Abu Bakr al-Jabouli, as part of the investigation work and to contribute to improving the human rights environment in Lahj Governorate.
At the beginning of the meeting, committee member Judge Ishraq Al-Maqtari explained the necessity of the military services’ commitment to responding to the committee’s inquiries and memos regarding the facts they are investigating, and the contribution of these agencies to limiting the access of the committee’s teams to the remote areas in which the affected populations and war victims live.
The committee member also emphasized the main role of the military services in preventing any human rights violations in the areas they control and supervise by holding accountable everyone involved in committing human rights violations in the region.
For his part, the axis commander reviewed the difficult humanitarian conditions that civilians are experiencing in the villages of the Al-Qubaita, Al-Maqtara, and Tur Al-Baha districts in Lahj Governorate, and the villages of Al-Ahkoum, Al-Abous, and Al-Athawar in the Haifan District, south of Taiz Governorate, and the necessity of accelerating the arrival of aid to these affected areas.
Major General Al-Jabouli stressed that the army personnel in the Tur Al-Baha axis adhere to the provisions of international humanitarian law and their commitment to it during military operations, and the readiness of the axis to respond to the committee’s inquiries and hold accountable any individual proven to be involved in human rights violations.
For their part, the Commander of Operations of the Fourth Jabali Infantry Brigade, Lieutenant Colonel Imad Al-Dossi, and the Staff of War of the Sixth Brigade in the axis, Captain Ziad Adnan, praised the positive cooperation between the Tur Al-Baha axis with all its members and the citizens in the directorates that fall within its security and military operations and tasks to prevent any acts of violence that may occur. Affects human rights, security, tranquility and safety of residents and travellers.
In the visit, which included the headquarters of the 4th Jabali Infantry Brigade in Al-Maqtara District, a number of issues were discussed that the committee is investigating, related to restrictions on freedom and reports of harassment incidents in Al-Maqtara District, and listening to the response of the Axis leadership, and the Axis’s procedures for assuming legal responsibility in preventing violating behavior. of national laws and international conventions.
