Last night, 17 Yemeni fishermen arrived in the capital, Aden, in southern Yemen, after weeks of detention in Sudan.
The media of the local authority in Hodeidah said that the First Undersecretary of Hodeidah Governorate, Walid Al-Qadimi, received in the capital, Aden, 17 fishermen from the Al-Jarahi District, south of Hodeidah, who were detained in the Republic of Sudan.
Weeks ago, the Sudanese authorities detained Yemeni fishermen, confiscated their boats, and imposed a fine on them as a result of their entering Sudanese territorial waters to fish without prior permission. They issued a sentence of 6 months imprisonment or a payment of one million Sudanese pounds per person, before releasing them after intervention. The Yemeni embassy in Sudan, but they did not return the boats, which represent their only source of livelihood.
The detained fishermen then appealed to the relevant authorities and the Yemeni government to intervene immediately to evacuate them from Sudan and ensure their safe return to their families.
