A human rights report documented more than eight thousand incidents of violation committed by the Houthi militia in Al-Bayda Governorate over ten years.
The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms said, in a report entitled “Qifa...an open theater for Houthi terrorism,” that the violations varied between killings, injuries, kidnappings, torture, house bombings, and others.
The report indicated that the militias used various killing methods, as the network documented (61) cases of killing as a result of direct sniper fire, (285) cases of killing by direct gunfire, (198) cases as a result of indiscriminate shelling, and (214) cases due to... Landmines, (41) cases of field executions, (13) cases of killing as a result of bombing houses, (18) cases of assassination, and (14) cases of killing under torture, (8) cases of killing being run over by militia crews and vehicles, and (17) cases of killing as a result of other accidents.
The report stated that the village of “Hanaka Al Masoud” in the Al-Qurayshiya District was the target of a siege that lasted for more than a week, as the militia used drones and heavy weapons to destroy homes and displace families, which led to the killing of 7 civilians and the wounding of 18 others, including women and children. The militia launched a massive kidnapping campaign that affected at least 400 civilians, including children and the elderly.
The network’s field team documented that, on Thursday, January 9, 2025, the Houthi militia completely bombed about (16) houses, and burned (5) other houses, as a result of indiscriminate bombing by drones, and the bombing resulted in the partial destruction of most of the houses in the Hanakat Al Masoud area. In its seven residential communities: Al-Saram, Al-Sablah, Kabada, Al-Qabil, Al-Qaa, Ras Al-Shifa, and Al-Mashawaf.
The report pointed out that the Houthi militias launched a massive kidnapping campaign targeting the people of the village, kidnapping at least (400) civilians, including children and the elderly, and (360) of them were transferred to the prison of the Radaa Directorates Security Administration in the Al-Kamb area, while the (60) others were transferred to the central prison in Radaa. This campaign resulted in the killing of about (7) civilians, and the injury of (18) others, including women and children.
The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms confirmed that these crimes represent a flagrant violation of the Geneva Conventions, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, international humanitarian law, and international human rights law, and they amount to war crimes that reflect the criminal nature of the Houthi militias. The network added that the militias target innocent civilians, It implements a violent sectarian agenda aimed at spreading terror and fear among the civilian population, and reinforcing its bloody approach.
The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms called on the international community and the United Nations to take urgent action to stop these violations, and to put pressure on the Houthi militia to lift the siege immediately, and to provide safe corridors for humanitarian aid. It called on the High Commissioner for Human Rights and all international mechanisms to condemn these violations and crimes and work to resolve Prosecute its perpetrators and those responsible, and ensure the provision of protection for the civilian population in the affected areas
