Details of the meeting of the office of the UN envoy with a Saudi delegation in Amman

The team of the Office of the UN Envoy to Yemen met with a Saudi delegation in the Jordanian capital, Amman, last week.
The meeting with the Saudi delegation, which represents the Military Coordination Committee, discussed the necessary steps and requirements for a ceasefire in Yemen.
A statement published by the envoy’s office, today, Friday, stated that the meeting was held during the period 21-23 January.
The meeting comes as part of the Office of the Special Envoy's continuing efforts to work on the security track. It is the second after a previous meeting last December with representatives of the Military Coordination Committee of the Yemeni government.
The statement indicated that since the six-month truce in 2022, the efforts of the delegations of the Military Coordination Committee have been pivotal. It is the committee facilitated by the Office of the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General in Yemen. With the aim of reducing escalation between the parties.
According to the statement, the discussions focused on exchanging views on the current security context in Yemen and the region. In addition to the priorities that must be addressed before commencing the ceasefire process, including confidence-building measures between the parties.
The statement quoted the deputy head of the mission in Yemen, Sarhad Fattah: “The envoy’s office is working with all parties to lay the foundation for a ceasefire. This represents not just a temporary cessation of fighting, but a step towards a sustainable peace process
He added: We are working with all stakeholders to address the necessary requirements for peace. and ensuring that future ceasefires lead to meaningful political dialogue and humanitarian relief.”
The statement indicated that the discussions form part of a series of sessions presented to the delegations participating in the Military Coordination Committee. Which was facilitated by leading international experts in the field of ceasefire.
