Coast Guard forces in the Red Sea sector succeeded today in rescuing 26 migrants of African nationalities, after their boat sank in international waters off the coast of Mokha, western Yemen.
The boat was carrying 75 migrants, including women, while 49 of them are still missing.
A source in the Coast Guard - Red Sea Sector - said: The boat sank as a result of strong winds and the boat captain lost control of it above the waves, which led to all passengers falling into the water.
The source added that the Coast Guard quickly sent additional patrols and divers to the site of the accident, stressing that search and rescue operations are still continuing, and that all care has been provided to the survivors.
The source expressed regret over what happened, and warned of the dangers of illegal migration by sea, calling on migrants not to be led by criminal networks that exploit their needs and put their lives in danger.
