Director Fidel Muhammad Othman Al-Faqih, Acting Director General of the Local 8 Water and Sanitation Corporation, Lahj Governorate, called on all citizens in the city of Al-Houta, the Sabr area, and the areas of the Tuban District to quickly pay the value of drinking water consumption, in order to reduce the catastrophic risks that threaten the occurrence of a water drought in the wells. Al-Faqih revealed the decrease in the productivity of wells in the field, which previously reached 12 liters per second, and the current decrease in productivity is between 3-5 liters per second. Al-Faqih considered this decrease in the water level a dangerous indicator that threatens the field with water drought in the coming days.< /p>

The jurist attributed this decrease to some people digging wells up to 300 meters deep near the field’s water sanctuary and its surroundings, which caused a significant drop in the field’s groundwater level.

The jurist called on the leadership of the local authority in the governorate, the ministry, and the supporting organizations, as well as the donor countries, to intervene quickly and urgently and support the institution with the operations of drilling new wells with greater depth, in order to avoid this situation while it is just beginning.

Al-Faqih stressed the need for citizens’ cooperation in paying the cost of drinking water consumption so that the corporation can maintain the continuity of pumping water and confront any other challenges.
