A report reveals the Houthi use of schools as camps to recruit children

The Mayon Human Rights Organization in Yemen accused, today (Thursday), the Houthi militia of using 700 governmental and private schools in its areas of control as recruitment centers for children and training them in light and medium weapons, under the direct supervision of the Ministries of Defense and Education in the Houthi government. >
The organization said, in a statement on the occasion of the International Day to Combat the exploitation of children as soldiers, that it feels very sorry for the escalation of the numbers of children recruited in Yemen until the end of 2024 reached record levels, explaining that the Houthi militia continues to recruit systematic children and deny them their right to life and education And exposing them to death and injuries, and threatening their future, in a serious violation of international laws and human rights, especially the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
The organization pointed out that, despite the reduction in the relative escalation between the parties to the conflict since October 2022, the recruitment of children in Yemen has not stopped until it became one of the most dangerous developments in the conflict since the outbreak of the war in 2014, asking international organizations to coordinate their efforts to ensure that guaranteed measures are taken. Not to involve children in hostilities.
The organization added: “We are the alarm of the danger in front of us today, stressing the need to limit the recruitment of children, the consequences of violence against them and ensure the protection and promotion of their rights.”
