Details of Yemen signing a new agreement for space internet service

The Yemeni International Telecommunications Company “Tleman” signed a memorandum of understanding with the OneWEB Satellite Satellite Company, to provide space internet services in the Republic of Yemen.
The director of the Yemeni International Telecommunications Company “Tilman”, Abdul Salam Al -Salafi, explained that the memorandum of understanding has been signed within a joint cooperation program in the telecommunications sector between the Yemeni International Telecommunications Company “Tilmen” and OneWeb.
Al -Salafi considered that the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding does not mean signing the final contract. Rather, it represents the beginning of a negotiating path, through which the technical and commercial aspects will be discussed before making a final decision on the agreement.
Signing the Memorandum of Understanding - according to Salafi - is a first step towards the start of negotiations. In preparation for reaching a final agreement and signing the contract with OneWeb-Neom to provide space internet services.
He pointed out that any additional details about the project will be announced as soon as a final agreement is reached with the company.
He added that the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding is a qualitative addition, and allows the provision of Internet service via OneWeb to keep pace with the Yemeni government’s directions to digital transformation. And the service of the public and private education sectors, bank sectors and service institutions. It contributes to improving digital infrastructure and promoting the country's digital transformation.
He pointed out that the service that will be provided will cover the areas under government control.
He touched on the absence of a relationship between the European OneWeb service and the American Star Link service, which Yemen approved its launch in August last year. As it will not cancel the Star Link service, as he put it.
He said that the two services provide the audience with the internet service via satellite, but it is provided via Star Link at discounted prices.
Internet service is targeted via OneWEb, companies and specialized sectors with customized solutions and professional support with less frequencies, achieving the so -called Internet of Things world. While the Starlink service focuses on residential and small companies in rural areas with a set of speed and self -installation options, at higher speeds.
He added that “Tleman” will announce the advantages of the service details more when the agreement is finally completed in the coming days.
He emphasized that the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in all its institutions and sectors seeks to develop the telecommunications sector and services in partnership with international companies to keep pace with modern technical developments in the region.
The government announced the inauguration of the space internet service, "Star Link" in Yemen, six months ago. But since that time the subscription service has been not available.
It is noteworthy that OneWEb was founded in London in 2012, and works to provide Internet satellite service in remote areas that lack infrastructure.
It is the second largest artificial satellite operator in the world, as it occupies 358 low -orbit satellites, and the company runs its operations in the region's markets since 2017 through its office in Saudi Arabia. It is greatly active in the Middle East and Africa.
