Newspaper: 15 thousand African immigrants arrived in Yemen within a month

Despite the measures taken by the Yemeni government to reduce illegal immigration from the "Horn of Africa", the country received more than 15,000 immigrants during the month of January alone, as smugglers created alternative roads to reach instead of the previous main roads.
While the government forces in Lahj Governorate (West Aden) announced the objection of two boats carrying dozens of immigrants from the "Horn of Africa", including the smugglers, data distributed by the International Organization for Migration showed that a reflection of its displacement matrix monitored the arrival of 15,400 immigrants to Yemen during Last January.
Nevertheless, the organization confirmed that this number represents a significant decrease of 25 percent from the total number reported in the previous month, as more than 20 thousand immigrants arrived in Yemen. According to these data, the majority of immigrants (89 percent) arrived in the Yemeni coast from Djibouti, while the rest (11 %) left Somali ports. All leaving immigrants from Djibouti arrived at the Dabab Directorate in Taiz Governorate, near Bab al -Mandab, which are (13642 immigrants), while the rest reached the coast of Shabwa Governorate, east of Aden.
According to international data, the total number of expatriates since January 2024 reached 76,297 immigrants. Among the total migrants registered with international organizations, there were 21 percent of children, 22 percent of women, and 57 percent of men.
During the period covered by the report, most of the immigrants of the Ethiopian nationality were (98 percent), while only 2 percent of Somali nationals were.
Appreciation numbers
And if no migrants have received the arrival of Lahj during this period, the reasons for this were "probably" to the measures taken by the government to combat smuggling since August 2023 in the coast of the province, which was the most important way to smuggle immigrants from the Horn of Africa to Yemen during previous years.
The mechanism of “monitoring the flow concerned with tracking displacement in Yemen, affiliated with the International Organization for Migration, recorded the arrival of migrants along the southern coastal borders of the country and the return of Yemeni citizens from abroad, to determine immigration patterns and provide quantitative estimates for the irregular migrant population entering the country. p>
However, the International Organization of Immigration warned that the “flow monitoring record” does not monitor all immigration flows to the country, but it provides indicative visions about immigration trends based on the known total number of immigrants who arrive along the coastal and land borders that are monitored during a period Preparation of the report.
And starting from the end of September 2024, the International Organization for Migration was able to reach the coast of the Dhubab district in Taiz Governorate, which allowed it to cover better for those coming from the Djiboutian coast.
This road was not known before, and the smugglers were not using it, as they preferred to go towards the Ras al -Ara area in the coast of Lahj Governorate before the security campaign carried out by the government forces.
The International Immigration Organization indicated that its coverage of this new region would translate into an increase in the total number of expatriates, especially those who were far from monitoring.
