The UN envoy: The Houthi -American escalation undermines calm efforts and pushes Yemen towards a broader regional conflict

The UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grendberg, said that the series of attacks by the Houthi group on the Red Sea, and the American air strikes in response, undermines peace efforts, and threatening to drag Yemen for more regional conflict. Grendberg said: “In confirmation of what the Secretary -General indicated, I am very concerned about the impact of American air strikes in the port of Ras Issa and its surroundings on civilians, especially truck drivers and workers in the port, as well as on the civil infrastructure.
He added: “The series of attacks by the Ansar Allah group on the Red Sea, and the American air strikes in response to peace efforts, and warn of the dragging of Yemen for more regional conflict. Therefore, I was repeated my call to restraint, reduce escalation, and protect civilians and civil infrastructure from all parties according to international law.”
He continued: "The attacks on the Red Sea must stop with reliable guarantees that protect it from becoming a long -term struggle. These guarantees are necessary - not only for global security, but also to prevent Yemen from slipping away from the path of peace."
He affirmed at the end of his statement: "I will continue to work with all parties to achieve this goal in order to achieve sustainable peace in Yemen.
