World Health: More than 11,500 new cases of cholera in Yemen

A recent international statistic revealed that more than 11,500 new cases of cholera and 9 deaths in Yemen were recorded during the first quarter of this year.
The World Health Organization said in its latest report on cholera outbreaks, issued on Tuesday, that 11,507 cases of cholera, severe water diarrhea in Yemen, and 9 mortality linked to the epidemic, were reported between January 1 and March 30, 2025.
The report added that 1,278 new cases were reported, without recording any death related to the disease in the last 28 days of the report.
The global health explained that Yemen is the fourth largest country in the outbreak of the epidemic in the world, after South Sudan (29,050 cases), Afghanistan (21,533 cases) and the Democratic Congo (15,785 cases).
The organization pointed out that conflicts, collective displacement and disasters caused by natural risks and climate change are factors that have contributed to the intensification of the disease outbreaks, especially in rural areas affected by floods, where the infrastructure and limited access to health care leads to delaying treatment. Adding that these cross -border factors have increased the complexity of cholera outbreaks and the difficulty of controlling them.
