116 humanitarian organizations warning of an imminent catastrophe in Yemen and calling for urgent financing

116 humanitarian organizations, including United Nations agencies and international and local organizations, called for an urgent international move to prevent Yemen from slipping into a more severe humanitarian crisis, warning that severe financing gaps are threatening to undermine relief efforts in the country that lives one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world.
The organizations warned, in a joint statement issued on the eve of the seventh meeting of senior humanitarian officials (SOM VII), that the year 2025 may be the most difficult so far for Yemenis, in light of the continued conflict, economic collapse, and climate shocks, in exchange for a major shrinking in humanitarian aid.
According to the statement, less than 10% of the humanitarian response plan for Yemen for this year has yet been, which impedes the arrival of basic aid to millions of people across the country.
The statement said that the relief agencies continue, in partnership with civil society organizations, to provide life -saving services that include food and water, health care, education, shelter and protection despite the challenges of insecurity, the difficulty of arrival, and the detention of some humanitarian workers.
The organizations emphasized that generous support from donors in the past years contributed to avoiding famine, reducing suffering, and protecting the most vulnerable groups, calling for increasing funding flexible, and providing a predictable and at the appropriate time to maintain the gains made after years of humanitarian work.
The statement stressed that humanitarian aid alone is not enough, calling on the international community to enhance development support, provide economic opportunities, and ensure access to basic services, in addition to pushing a permanent political settlement that ends the ongoing conflict for years.
The organizations also demanded that concrete steps to protect civilians and ensure respect for international humanitarian law, including facilitating the access of humanitarian aid to all those in need, without obstacle.
The statement concluded by inviting the international community to seize the opportunity of the upcoming meeting to take decisive decisions that prevent the exacerbation of the situation, and the way for Yemenis to rebuild their lives is dignified.
