Five members of Al -Qaeda were killed in an air strike attributed to the United States, on Friday evening, in the governorate of Abyan, south of Yemen, according to two security sources told AFP today.

A security source in Abyan, the governorate adjacent to the capital, Aden, said that “residents of the region reported an American raid targeting al -Qaeda site, and resulted in the killing of five members of the organization.”

Another security source added that the raid targeted a mountainous area used by the organization as a shelter, stressing that “the operation resulted in the killing of five elements,” noting that one of the dead is believed to be from the local leaders of the organization, despite not verifying their identities so far.

Abyan is one of the areas where al -Qaeda elements are active in the Arabian Peninsula, taking advantage of its mountainous terrain, and the absence of stable security control as a result of the war that has continued for years.
