The United Nations Mission to Support the Hodeidah Agreement (UNMHA) accused the Houthi militia of exploiting the agreement for militarization and provocations. In a statement today (Friday), the mission expressed its regret for exploiting these opportunities for militarization and all kinds of provocative actions, in a clear reference to the violations and military escalation launched by the militia in Hodeidah.
UNMHA called on all parties to the Stockholm Agreement to cooperate in order to achieve lasting peace in the governorate to take it as an example to be emulated in all of Yemen. She urged the need to think carefully about the best ways to provide support to the Yemeni people in Hodeidah.
The mission stressed the importance of unhindered access to civilians, goods and services across the front lines in Hodeidah, and bridging the gap between Yemenis living in areas under government or Houthi control. It considered that enabling this access would play a very important role in alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people in Hodeidah and meeting their basic needs.
The mission said that its head, Major General Michael Perry, held during the past few days a series of meetings in Aden, with officials in the recognized Yemeni government, led by Foreign Minister Ahmed bin Mubarak, officials of the Yemeni Executive Mine Action Center, and the government team in the coordination committee for the return of... Deployment, it focused on the urgent need to stop the escalation in hostilities in Hodeidah and strengthen efforts to bring peace there.
It affirmed its commitment to carrying out its tasks under its mandate, which is to facilitate the implementation of the Hodeidah Agreement and promote peace, stability and prosperity in Yemen, through real cooperation and focus on the well-being of the Yemeni people, to make progress towards a peaceful and prosperous future for all.
