Walid Fares, an American political researcher of Lebanese origin, expects the United States to support the Southern Transitional Council in Yemen, to confront the Houthi militia’s threats to maritime safety in the Red Sea.
Fares said in his blog that the Pentagon, in light of the willingness of the southerners to fight for the safety of navigation off the coast of the Arabian Peninsula, can provide them with appropriate support.
Fares added: “It would be a smart and strategic step on the part of the United States to become a partner of Aden (the administrative center for the southerners) and provide it with naval capabilities under the auspices of the American Navy.”
He continued: “The (international coalition to protect maritime routes from the Houthis) will obtain a partner on the border with the Houthis, who are supported by Iran.”
This expectation comes after the Southern Transitional Council announced its readiness to confront sabotage attacks launched by the Houthi militia, which aim to obstruct navigation in the Red Sea.
The Houthi militia, supported by Iran, is considered a threat to maritime safety in the Red Sea, as it has carried out kidnappings and shooting attacks on civilian ships in the region.
