The British Maritime Agency announced that it had received reports of drone activity and a possible explosion in the Bab al-Mandab Strait in the Red Sea.
The British Maritime Trade Operations Authority, affiliated with the British Army, according to the Associated Press, issued a brief warning to shipping companies that the incident occurred in the Bab al-Mandab Strait, which separates East Africa from the Arabian Peninsula.
The Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper said, quoting a security source: “There is an attempted attack that was thwarted in the Red Sea.”
He added that the details are being examined, after the UK Maritime Trade Operations Agency (UKMTO) said it had received reports of drone activity and an explosion in the Bab al-Mandab Strait in the Red Sea near Yemen.
Bab al-Mandab connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden. That region has witnessed a series of attacks in recent weeks attributed to Houthi militants in response to Israel because of its war on Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
The group announced on Sunday, November 19, the seizure of the “Galaxy Leader” cargo ship, owned by an Israeli businessman, in the Red Sea, and taking it to the Yemeni coast, in solidarity with “the Palestinian resistance in the Gaza Strip.”
