The Houthi militia announced, on Sunday evening, the targeting of two Israeli ships in the south of the Red Sea and near Bab al-Mandab.
The Houthi militias said in a statement by their military spokesman that they “targeted two Israeli ships in Bab al-Mandab, the “Unity Explorer” ship and the “Number Nine” ship, where the first ship was targeted with a naval missile and the second ship with a naval drone.”
According to the Houthi militias, the targeting of the two ships came after their “failure to respond” to the militia’s warnings.
The Houthi militias confirmed that they "continue to prevent Israeli ships from navigating the Red and Arab Seas until the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip stops."
The first attack occurred near Bab al-Mandab and targeted the "Unity Explore" ship, a British-owned ship, while the other attack occurred off the coast of Hodeidah port and targeted the "Number Nine" ship.
Earlier, a Yemeni security source told Al-Ain News that the Houthi militias bombed a commercial ship owned by an Israeli company in the Red Sea.
The official, who preferred to remain anonymous, explained to Al-Ain News, “Information indicates that a ship owned by the United Kingdom was struck by a missile fired by the Houthis while it was sailing 34 nautical miles west/northwest of Mokha near the Bab al-Mandab waterway.” .
The Pentagon had previously confirmed that it was aware of reports of attacks on the US destroyer Carney and commercial ships in the Red Sea.
The Houthi statement delivered by the militia spokesman did not mention targeting the American destroyer.
The Houthi militia previously announced the downing of an American march over the Red Sea as part of its response to American support for Israel.
This comes after the Houthi militia attacked, on November 19, a Japanese ship in the international waterway in the Red Sea, with dozens of sailors of different nationalities on board, against the backdrop of the war between Gaza and Israel.
It also comes a day after members of the UN Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the recent attacks carried out by the Houthis against a commercial ship in the Red Sea.
The UN Security Council called for the immediate release of the MV Galaxy Leader and its crew. He stressed the importance of navigational rights and freedoms for all ships in the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea, in accordance with international law.
