A recent UN report stated that the level of food security in Yemen witnessed a slight improvement last October, compared to the previous month.
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) said in a report issued today, Monday, that “the results of the survey that... A recent survey showed an improvement in the level of food security among families in Yemen during October 2023 compared to the previous month (September).
The report attributed the reason for the improvement to the increased availability of food and improved opportunities for obtaining income after the start of the main seasonal harvest in most crop livelihoods, in addition to the continued relative stability in the prices of basic foodstuffs.
The FAO explained that the proportion of families Those who resorted to emergency livelihood coping strategies decreased to 13%, which is the lowest percentage among all previous monitoring rounds.
The report indicated that, in line with improved food security, the percentage of families who often resort to Food-based adaptation strategies increased by 5 percentage points in the period from September to October, and 4% of them changed from emergency response strategies to crisis response strategies.
This included the survey conducted by the FAO during the period from October 11 to 30, 2023. A total of 2,420 families from all Yemeni governorates (22 governorates), with an average of no less than 110 families from each governorate.
