The United Nations World Food Program announced, on Tuesday, the suspension of food aid in areas controlled by the Houthi coup militias, due to limited funding and the failure to reach an agreement with them to target the most needy families.
The program said in a statement that it had negotiated with the Houthi militias for a year without communicating an agreement to reduce the number of beneficiaries of food aid from 9.5 million to 6.5 million people.
The statement added that food stocks have begun to run out in areas under Sana'a authorities, indicating that resuming aid distribution if an agreement is reached may take 4 months due to the interruption of the supply chain.
The statement explained that aid distribution operations will continue in areas controlled by the legitimate government.
According to the United Nations, more than 80% of Yemen's population, numbering about 30 million people, are in need of humanitarian aid.
