An informed source revealed, today, Wednesday, a draft road map for peace in Yemen, which includes three stages, starting with the first stage, which is the confidence-building stage, and it is timed for a period of six months.
According to the source, the most important provisions of the draft are:
- A permanent and comprehensive ceasefire throughout Yemen, as well as cross-border attacks.
- Payment of salaries to public sector employees (civilian and military).
- Releasing prisoners and detainees under the rule (all for all).
- Lifting restrictions on air and sea ports.
- Arrangements regarding unifying the national currency and ensuring the neutrality of the Central Bank of Yemen.
- Forming joint committees from the government and the Houthis regarding opening the closed main roads, and other economic and political committees.
The source explained that the draft aims to build confidence between the warring parties and create an appropriate environment for the start of the comprehensive peace process.
This announcement comes after the visit of the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, to Sanaa and Aden, last week, where he met with the leadership of the Presidential Council and the Houthis.
Grundberg expressed his optimism about the possibility of reaching a peace agreement in Yemen, and said that “there is a real opportunity to achieve peace now.”
