Urgent.. Grundberg announces details of a road map to resolve the Yemeni crisis between the presidential office and the Houthis

The Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, announced today, Saturday, a road map to resolve the Yemeni crisis, after a series of meetings with the parties in Riyadh and Muscat, including with the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, and the chief negotiator of Ansar Allah. The road map, which will be sponsored by the United Nations, includes, among other elements, the parties’ commitment to implementing a nationwide ceasefire, paying all public sector salaries, resuming oil exports, opening roads in Taiz and other parts of Yemen, and continuing to ease the restrictions imposed. Grundberg expressed his deep appreciation for the active roles played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Sultanate of Oman in supporting the two parties to reach this point, and urged all parties to exercise the utmost restraint at this critical time to provide an environment conducive to dialogue and facilitate the successful completion of an agreement on the road map.

This step comes after more than seven years of war in Yemen, which left hundreds of thousands dead and injured, and displaced millions of residents.
