As part of the ongoing efforts to monitor and thwart drug and contraband trafficking operations, the Security Belt forces in the capital, Aden, were able yesterday evening to arrest a contraband trafficking network in possession of large quantities of foreign alcohol in the Al-Haswah and Bir Ahmed areas of Al-Buraiqa District.
Aden Belt Operations revealed the launch of a large security operation led by the First and Emergency Sector of the Belt Forces, the women’s component, and community committees after a soldier was injured in an armed ambush while performing a monitoring and investigation mission in the Al-Haswah area, adding that the campaign targeted homes and yards in the area used to promote contraband, during which more were seized. Of 2,750 glass bottles and boxes of foreign-made liquor, and the arrest of 15 accused members of the promotion network in the Al-Haswah and Bir Ahmed areas.
The operations confirmed that an armed gang affiliated with the Promotion Network opened fire against the Belt Forces in an attempt to thwart the security operation, as 4 soldiers were injured, so that the Belt Forces were able, after limited clashes, to arrest a number of the accused.
She explained that the Security Belt forces detained the accused and the seized items and completed investigation procedures with the aim of transferring them to the relevant authorities, stressing the continuation of the security operation in that area to prevent all manifestations of the promotion and sale of alcohol or the carrying of unlicensed weapons and to track down drug dealers and users.
The operational communication indicated that the campaign was supervised by the Chairman of the Security Committee, the Governor of the capital, Aden, the Commander-in-Chief of the Security Belt Forces, Brigadier General Mohsen Al-Wali, and his staff, Brigadier General Jalal Al-Rubaie, and in accordance with the followed security and legal procedures.
The security belt forces in the capital, Aden, had seized large quantities of narcotic hashish a few days ago, following a large security operation targeting drug trafficking gangs in a number of districts.
