The US Navy seizes advanced Iranian weapons that were destined for the Houthis

On Tuesday, US Central Command announced the seizure of advanced Iranian conventional weapons that were destined for the Houthi group in Yemen.
The US command said in a statement that the seized items are propulsion and guidance devices and warheads for Houthi medium-range ballistic missiles (MRBMs) and anti-ship cruise missiles (ASCMs), in addition to components related to air defense.
The statement added that the analysis revealed that the Houthis used weapons like those seized to threaten navigation in the Red Sea.
The statement explained that the seizure took place on January 11, 2024, when the US Navy confiscated at night a sailboat illegally transporting advanced lethal aid from Iran.
The statement continued that the US Navy, supported by helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles, carried out a complex boarding operation for the dhow near the coast of Somalia.
The statement indicated that the sailboat was sunk as unsafe, and the disposition of the boat’s 14 crew members is being determined.
The statement pointed out that two US Marines were reported missing at sea after participating directly in this operation, and we are conducting a comprehensive search for them.
The statement said that Iran continues to ship lethal aid to the Houthis, and this reveals that it is sowing instability in the region.
