On Friday, Yemeni Foreign Minister Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak held discussions with his Eritrean counterpart, Othman Saleh Mohammed, which focused on the repercussions of the events in the Red Sea as a result of the Houthi attacks.
The meeting that brought together the two ministers on the sidelines of the Non-Aligned Summit, held in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, was devoid of discussions about the crisis of the Eritrean Navy’s ongoing arrests of Yemeni fishermen, which escalated during the recent years of the war.
According to the official Yemeni News Agency, the meeting “discussed ways to improve bilateral relations between the two countries, developments in the situation in Yemen and the Red Sea region, and the importance of stopping the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip.”
The two ministers exchanged, according to Saba Agency, “views on peace efforts in Yemen (between the Yemeni government and the Houthi group).”
During the meeting, they “discussed the recent developments in the Red Sea as a result of the Houthi militia’s targeting of commercial ships, the threat to the maritime navigation artery, and its repercussions on the countries of the region and regional and international peace and security.”
Regarding the Palestinian issue, the Yemeni Foreign Minister stressed “the necessity of concerted international efforts to pressure Israel to cease fire, allow the entry of humanitarian aid, and reach a lasting peaceful solution to the conflict, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.”
